STUDENT CENTRE (www.scdu.hr)

Student Centre in Dubrovnik is an institution with a long tradition (opened in 1963). Nowadays, it is functioning as an independent public institution founded by the University of Dubrovnik. The Centre has concerned itself with the standard of all students in our city throughout that period. The work of the Centre covers: accommodation, meals, employment, and cultural and sport activities. The premises are at the very attractive location in the DOC, business centar at  the address: Kralja Tomislava 7.

ACCOMMODATION

Since Dubrovnik still has no students’ hostel, the Centre provides addresses of people who are registered to take student lodgers in their homes. To assist students with their rent, the Centre organises a public competition for subsidies at the beginning of every academic year. Thus, for example, the Centre granted 394 such subsides amounting to 147 kunas in the year 2009. The subsidy comes from the state budget, through the Ministry or Science, Education and Sport. Students’ hostel is planned for the future as an answer to the growing demand for student accommodation.

MEALS

Students coming to Dubrovnik will not be disappointed with the quality of meals offered to them in one of five restaurants. These restaurants have signed contracts with the Student Centre and with the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport. It should be stressed that the quality of meals is high so that it can satisfy the most fastidious tastes.

Students can choose one of the following restaurants: Hotel Ivka “BOKAR”, Od Sv. Mihajla 3; Restaurant “MAESTOSO”-SRĐ”, Obala Stjepana Radića 25; Restaurant “RIVA”, Lapadska obala 20;

Subsidies are available for all full-time and external students. Meal tickets can be bought at one of the restaurants on presentation of the membership card issued by the Student Centre. A student pays 7,00 kuna for a meal, while the subsidy from the Ministry is 12,30 kuna, which brings the cost to 19,30 kuna per meal. A meal ticket entitles a student to a complete three-course meal.

Students resident in Dubrovnik are entitled to 20 – 23 meal tickets per month, (depending on the number of working days for that month), while students who come from outside Dubrovnik are entitled to 60 meal tickets per month.

Documents needed to obtain a student card for meals:

PERMANENT AND TEMPORARY STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

The Centre provides opportunity for temporary and permanent employment throughout the year on signing a contract with a full-time student. This applies to all full-time students, external students and pupils of the final year of their middle school.
The documents needed for the employment card:

1. Certificate of enrolment in the current academic year,
2. Current bank account at the “OTP banka” in Dubrovnik, (personal),
3. 1 small photograph.

CULTURAL AND SPORT ACTIVITIES

The Centre has had close relations with students’ organisations in the City of Dubrovnik and with the lecturer in PE and Health Education at the University of Dubrovnik. One of the results of that co-operation is the organisation of the regatta of eights, “Semper primus” the biggest student rowing-race in this part of Europe. The Centre also finances other sport activities, publishing activities and students’ education tours.
