    ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

    The undergraduate three-year professional study programme in Hotel Industry, Restaurant Industry and Gastronomy has been established exactly as a result of adjustment to modern trends in higher education, based on the trends of the Bologna Declaration and the needs of the modern market economy. Within this professional study programme, students will gain an up-to-date knowledge about analysing tourist trends, changes and events as well as insights about adjusting to new tourism trends.

    By attending this programme, students will get a specialist practical knowledge in hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy, whereby they will be able to master the skills to be applied in even the most challenging situations, which they are already facing or which they will face in their everyday professional work. Students are offered compulsory courses as well as an interesting selection of elective courses, which create for them the opportunity to realise their individual goals. Being especially tailored to enable the practical training of attendees, the curriculum of this undergraduate professional study programme is aimed at mastering the necessary knowledge, skills and techniques for all jobs in the industry, for which our attendees are preparing in the course of their study.

    Students acquire the needed practical training by attending practical training, compulsory professional practice, practical classes, projects, workshops and seminars. Besides teachers from higher education institutions, numerous eminent professionals working in this industry also participate in the direct transfer of knowledge to our students.

    Students who successfully complete the undergraduate professional study programme in Hotel Industry, Restaurant Industry and Gastronomy will be able to meet all of the challenges that middle management regularly face in their daily work.

    When one takes into account the current economic situation and future developmental expectations for Dubrovnik-Neretva County and for Croatia, this undergraduate professional study programme providing education for hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy industry professionals, meets both the current and future needs for professionals in this segment of the tourist industry.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Upon the completion of the three-year undergraduate professional study programme in Hotel Industry, Restaurant Industry and Gastronomy, students will be able to:
    • Correctly interpret the key concepts in hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy
    • Connect the basic concepts of economic theory and analysis with the processes initiated by hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy
    • Apply managerial economics in hotel industry and catering industry
    • Systematically notice relations and analyse and interpret the role of hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy in modern economic environment
    • Correctly apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in everyday business practice
    • Consider the importance of hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy for the development of modern tourism and for the competitiveness of a tourist destination and tourist products in its surroundings
    • Do market research motivated by new trends in hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy
    • Practice an interdisciplinary and integrative approach in business
    • Understand and implement the changes brought about by modern market to tourist offer providers with respect to the selection of methods and techniques adjusted to the specific characteristics of hotel industry and catering industry.

    The undergraduate professional study programme in Hotel Industry, Restaurant Industry and Gastronomy lasts three years or six semesters (180 ECTS credits).

    Upon the completion of this undergraduate professional programme, students are awarded the academic degree of a Professional Bachelor (Baccalaureus) in Hotel Industry, Restaurant Industry and Gastronomy (bacc. oec.).

    During this programme, special attention is paid to linking the theory with the practice of hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy so that the students who graduate from this programme are able to master the methods of work and join the professional workforce as soon as possible. The training of students for work in an international environment is in particular focus due to new business dimensions emerging on the modern tourist market.
    Students who graduate from this programme will be able to do jobs in the middle and senior management positions in hotel industry, restaurant industry and gastronomy.

    The Department of Economics and Business Economics fosters an individual approach to students, taking into account their needs and aspirations. This Department has you and your future in focus and you can be sure that the enrolment at a study programme with the Department of Economics and Business Economics is the right choice for you. Classes at our programme are taught by our professors, by visiting professors as well as by renowned experts from practice who know how to recognise talents, understand professional goals of students and help them realize these goals. Our computer labs are equipped with a state-of-the-art technology. Studying at this Department comes with an additional benefit, i.e. the participation in the ERASMUS mobility programme. This programme enables students to study during one semester or during the whole year at a partner university abroad. Our cooperation with various enterprises, Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the City of Dubrovnik ensures students the opportunity for gaining practical knowledges and for doing their professional practice.
