ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The specialist postgraduate study programme in Quality and Sustainable Development Management in Tourism has been organised and is carried out with the purpose to prepare and educate students to master complex challenges of the scientific disciplines in economics, specifically those relating to the commerce and tourism industry, which tourist offer providers in a destination often face. This is the first specialist postgraduate study programme in the Republic of Croatia that tackles the topics of work processes quality management and sustainable development process management in tourist companies. It facilitates and develops the methods and procedures how to solve difficult managerial problems and transfers this knowledge to students. Tourism management is becoming an important factor in creating the national economic policy of the Republic of Croatia. The implementation of quality and sustainable development management system, as initiated by the top management, is the strategic direction of the tourist companies’ business. The goal of this study programme is to increase the awareness that it is important that tourist destination products have an integral quality. Attendees are thus enabled to master the theoretic categories from quality and sustainable development management as well as to learn concrete knowledge and skills based on the kaizen business philosophy. Also, attendees gain an in-depth knowledge in the discipline in which they receive their professional education. They participate in the work of expert teams and, with the help of a mentor, do a number of independent professional projects, do their practical assignment and write their postgraduate thesis. This enables the attendees of this programme to gain the needed competences that they can apply in their practice, contributing thus to business processes improvement, primarily in the tourism sector, but also in other sectors that are connected with tourism. According to the Croatian Qualifications Framework, the level of the qualification that the students who graduate from this programme achieve is an integral qualification of level 7, which is related to level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework.
The University of Dubrovnik collaborates with tourist companies, which makes it easier for students to get the data they need for their study, and it enables companies to get the information about professionals specialising in quality and sustainable development management who are eligible for employment.
Teachers are actively included in economic activities and are members of associations and local government bodies, thus actively participating in the procedures connected with the improvement of quality and sustainable development system.
Classes will take place on weekends.

PROGRAMME DURATION

The specialist postgraduate study programme in Quality and Sustainable Development Management in Tourism lasts 1 academic year and 6 months, or 3 semesters (90 ECTS credits). Classes are organised in two semesters, and the third semester is envisaged for the writing of the Postgraduate Thesis.

DEGREE AWARDED

Upon the completion of the specialist postgraduate programme, students are awarded the academic degree of a Postgraduate Specialist in Quality and Sustainable Development (univ. spec. oec.).

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

This programme can be enrolled by the applicants who have graduated from an appropriate graduate study programme in the field of economics or have graduated from another graduate study programme, with the obligation to pass two differential exams. The programme can be also enrolled by the applicants who have graduated from an appropriate undergraduate study programme in the field of economics before the academic year 2005/2006 as well as those applicants who have graduated from another undergraduate university study programme according to study programmes valid before the academic year 2005/2006, with the obligation to pass two differential exams. The average of applicant’s grades must be at least 3.5. As an exception, it may be lower, however, such applicants need to enclose 2 relevant recommendations from university professors.

POSSIBILITY TO CONTINUE STUDIES

With the number of ECTS credits that they have acquired during this study programme, students can continue their studies at the universities of the Republic of Croatia and abroad. There is a possibility to continue studying at a doctoral study, with the recognition of a certain number of ECTS credits.

TUITION FEE

The tuition fee amounts to 30,000.00 HRK. Students can settle the total tuition amount as a one-time payment within fifteen days from the day of enrolment or they can pay it in instalments.

This programme enables students to study during one semester or during the whole year at a partner university abroad. Our cooperation with various enterprises, Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the City of Dubrovnik ensures students the opportunity for gaining practical knowledges and for doing their professional practice.
