Faculty of Economics and Business marks Global Entrepreneurship Week with inspiring lectures and workshops

The Faculty of Economics at the University of Dubrovnik hosted a range of activities this week as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week and in celebration of Women’s Entrepreneurship day. Throughout the week, a series of inspirational and motivating lectures, workshops, and visits took place, aimed at promoting entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and sustainable business initiatives.

Numerous students, high school students, and members of the public were introduced to the social enterprise Deša pro doo, which employs marginalized groups and produces authentic souvenirs. The director, Ana Grgić, shared successful examples of women who, through Deša, developed their own entrepreneurial projects. Entrepreneur Anamarija Bezek, owner of Atelijer AB, also presented alongside the Deša association.

An inspiring story was shared by Marjan Žitnik, president of the Maritimo Recycling association. His entrepreneurial initiative uses collected waste from the sea to create new products, thus closing the cycle of cleaning beaches and the seabed, reusing materials, and using the proceeds for further cleaning actions.

Entrepreneurial opportunities and challenges were also presented by Vlaho Carević, founder of Habitat Distillery, who after completing his studies in the Netherlands, decided to establish his own distillery to introduce innovation to the beverage industry.

Students had the opportunity to visit the Center for Entrepreneurship of the Dubrovnik-Neretva county and the Croatian chamber of trades and crafts of the Dubrovnik-Neretva county to learn about the practical aspects of entrepreneurship and to be encouraged to think entrepreneurially.
