The Department of Economics and Business and the Department of Arts and Restoration of the University of Dubrovnik are implementing the ‘3R’ (Recycle, Renew, Reuse) project, funded by the University of Dubrovnik and the Students’ Council. Within this project, the outdoor wooden benches in the Department of Economics and Business will be renewed in a sustainable way. The purpose of this project is to positively influence the awareness of the young about the importance of social responsibility and sustainable development.
Nine students and two teachers from the Department of Economics and Business and six students and two teachers from the Department of Arts and Restoration participate in this project. Students and teachers of the Department of Economics and Business will also paint the railing in front of the Grand Amphitheatre in the University building at Lapadska obala and will protect it against the weather. They will also procure and put into use waste bins for waste sorting at the Department of Economics and Business (paper, plastic, metal, glass and mixed waste) as well as self-standing ashtrays (cigarette ash soils and permanently damages floor tiles, and cigarette buds need between six months to one year to disintegrated).
The project objectives are manifold:
-to realise the cooperation among students from various University Departments,
-to practically master and implement the theoretical knowledge from the courses taught at both Departments,
-to become aware of the role of students in the society (social responsibility) and in environmental protection,
-to familiarise students with the role and importance of volunteering, solidarity and activism for their personal growth and development of their soft skills,
-to develop student awareness about the purpose and the manner of sorting of waste (Recycle) as well as about the importance of the process of the renewal and restoration of materials after the sorting of waste,
-to familiarise students how, by implementing the process of restoring/renewal (Renew) they can reuse the worn out materials and materials that are classified as waste (Reuse).
