On September 17th, a workshop on the use of artificial intelligence in higher education was held at the University of Dubrovnik. The workshop aimed to introduce teaching staff to tools and approaches that can support them in preparing and enhancing teaching content.

During the workshop, particular emphasis was placed on SAGE and GUARD, two tools developed within the PATHFINDER project. SAGE provides a framework for the effective and responsible integration of artificial intelligence into higher education, while GUARD enables educators to apply AI technology in practice when planning and delivering teaching activities. The workshop was delivered by Dr. Sc. Tech. Toni Besjedica and brought together 25 participants.

Through practical examples, participants explored how these tools can be used to plan teaching activities, create questions and other forms of assessment, design assessment rubrics, and revise existing curricula and assignments. Particular emphasis was placed on evaluating AI-generated content, the responsible use of technology, and the importance of educators professional judgement.

The workshop was organised as part of the Erasmus+ project PATHFINDER (Pioneering AI Technology in Higher Education to Facilitate Innovation and Nurture the Development of Entrepreneurial Resources), in which the University of Dubrovnik participates through the Center for Research on Digital Transformation (CREDO). The project focuses on advancing the understanding and responsible use of artificial intelligence in higher education.

The project is coordinated by the University of Liechtenstein, with the University of Dubrovnik, LAB University of Applied Sciences from Finland, and Formatio from Liechtenstein participating as project partners.
