The Faculty of Maritime studies of the University of Dubrovnik is taking part in a number of activities at the conference of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), held in Split from 7 to 10 October. Its participation confirms the Faculty’s active role in the international academic and professional community and in shaping the future of maritime education.
Of particular note was the participation of the Faculty’s representatives in the work of the IAMU Executive Board on 5 and 6 October, where the Faculty represented the interests of all 49 maritime higher education institutions in Region 1 – Europe and Africa.
The conference was officially opened in the presence of numerous guests by Oleg Butković, Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. In his address, he highlighted the importance of the University of Dubrovnik Faculty of Maritime Studies’ participation in the work of the IAMU Executive Board and in decision-making of significance for international maritime education.
An important part of the program was the President Forum, which focused on the topic ‘Human-centred Digital Oceans: Educating Safe & Green Global Maritime Professionals’. Associate Professor Srđan Vujičić, PhD, who took part in drafting the GMP BoK 2026 (Global Maritime Professional Body of Knowledge) guidelines for modern and sustainable seafarer education, played a significant role in the discussion.
In addition to Srđan Vujičić, the Faculty is represented at the conference by Assistant Professor Miho Klaić, PhD, Assistant Professor Darijo Mišković, PhD, Assistant Professor Nermin Hasanspahić, PhD, Assistant Professor Miho Kristić, PhD, and Maro Car, PhD. The Faculty’s representatives took part in presenting a total of seven scientific papers, and chaired scientific sessions during the conference program. The presentations were especially valuable because the research stemmed from work on the institutional project MASTERS and the Interreg project MARROBO, further showcasing the Faculty’s research activity in modern technologies, safety and sustainability in the maritime sector.
During the conference, a meeting was also held of the Association of Maritime Higher Education Institutions, chaired by the University of Dubrovnik Faculty of Maritime Studies. The meeting addressed a number of current issues important for the development of maritime higher education, most notably the possibility of implementing the Erasmus+ program in the Faculty’s undergraduate study program.
Through its participation in the work of the IAMU Executive Board, the President Forum, the conference’s scientific program and the Association of Maritime Higher Education Institutions, the University of Dubrovnik Faculty of Maritime Studies continues to actively contribute to the development of international maritime education, to building links between maritime higher education institutions, and to shaping educational standards focused on safe, green and digitally advanced shipping.
