Mato Šundrica, a student at the Faculty of Maritime Studies and President of the Student Council of the University of Dubrovnik, was unanimously elected President of the Croatian Student Council at its constituent session, held on October 31 on the University of Dubrovnik campus.
The session was attended by 12 of the 13 member universities. The newly elected leadership will head the Council in the 2026/2027 academic year and represent the interests of students across Croatia.
‘I am extremely pleased that it was unanimously decided that I take on the role of President of the Croatian Student Council. I see this as a great vote of confidence, but also as a responsibility toward all the students we represent. Through my work in the Student Council of the University of Dubrovnik, as Student Ombudsman, Vice President and President, I have gained experience that I want to bring to the national level. My goal is for the CSC to take a new step forward this academic year and become an even stronger and more recognizable voice for students throughout Croatia,’ Šundrica said.
Also elected at the session were Marina Mikulić as Secretary, Marija Magdalena Babić as Coordinator of Student Ombudsmen, and Tea Petrokov, a student at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Dubrovnik, as International Secretary.
The main topics of the session were continued advocacy for amendments to the Ordinance on Student Meals and for recognition of student work and years of study as part of pensionable service, issues that directly affect students’ everyday lives and their future.
