Professor Richard P. Farkas delivered a lecture at the University of Dubrovnik

Professor Richard P. Farkas, Ph.D., a distinguished American professor of political science from DePaul University Chicago (College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Political Science), visited the Faculty of Media and Public Relations at the University of Dubrovnik from 14 to 20 March.

During his visit, in addition to a series of working meetings, Professor Farkas delivered a lecture on Tuesday, 17 March, for undergraduate students of Media and Culture of Society and graduate students of Media and Public Relations, titled “Diplomacy in the 21st Century: Diplomacy & Communication Impacted by High Technology.”

In his lecture, he presented various aspects of contemporary U.S. domestic and foreign policy, with a particular focus on the impact of new technologies on diplomacy and communication. The lecture was followed by a discussion during which students had the opportunity to ask questions and further explore the topics presented.

Professor Farkas is a long-standing collaborator of the University of Dubrovnik, particularly in the development and implementation of joint academic activities involving students of the Faculty of Media and Public Relations and DePaul University Chicago. Among these, the Global Learning Experience (GLE) programme stands out, having been continuously implemented for eleven consecutive years.

The collaboration between the two institutions has lasted for more than 16 years and has resulted in the development of innovative models of international teaching and learning, curriculum integration, and the involvement of a large number of students in international academic activities. This cooperation has been recognised with the Damrich Award in 2023 and has provided students with the opportunity to gain experience studying in an international and multicultural environment, as well as to publish their professional work in publications of a renowned American institution.

This year’s visit by Professor Farkas further confirms the continuity of this successful collaboration and the ongoing development of joint programmes aimed at actively engaging students in the international academic community.
