
The public forum ‘Inside the World of Media’ will be held on Thursday, 26 May at 19:00 hours in the Campus of the University of Dubrovnik (Branitelja Dubrovnika 41). This is a student project of Ivan Milan, who is student at the Department of Communication Science, in the cooperation with the Students’ Council of the University of Dubrovnik. The forum is open to all interested attendees, and the aim is to present media operations through speakers who have a rich experience of working in this field.
Can the media of today be trusted? Where lies the limit between profit and independent journalism? Do independent media exist today? How big is the impact of politics on the media? Why has journalism become a despised profession? How to fight against fake news and misinformation? What is the future of media? These are only some of the questions to be answered by the following participants: actor and screen writer Željko Pervan, editor of the portal Dubrovački dnevnik Lucija Komaić, editor of HR Radio Dubrovnik Nila Miličić Vukosavić and operating director of the Dubrovnik Television Pasko Tomaš.
Željko Pervan, Croatian screen writer and actor, is one of the most popular comedians in Croatia, best known for his comedy show ‘Evening Classes’ (Večernja škola). He started his long-term career at Zagreb’s 101 radio, later he was part of the first private TV in Southeast Europe – OTV. He wrote columns for Vjesnik and 24 sata. He worked on HRT, RTL, Nova TV, 2nd programme of Croatian Radio and Radio Sljeme. Today, he is the editor and presenter of his two shows, ‘Pervan’s Daily’ and ‘Columnist Manifesto’ at Z1 television.
Nila Miličić Vukosavić is Editor-in-Chief of the Croatian Radio – Radio Dubrovnik. After having finished her secondary education, she started working at HRT, in the Dubrovnik TV studio. She has been continually employed at HRT since 1981 until today, and as of 1986 she has been working at Radio Dubrovnik as a presenter, host, and journalist. She is a well-known host of numerous public ceremonies, events and manifestations both in Dubrovnik and out of Dubrovnik.
Lucija Komaić has been the Editor-in-Chief of the portal Dubrovački dnevnik for ten years in a row. In the last two years, she has been the Editor-in-Chief of the local weekly Dubrovački dnevnik petkom. During her studies, she volunteered at UNIDU radio and at student magazine Punkt, after which she gained her journalist experience at Radio Ragusa, Radio Laus and Oko portal.
Pasko Tomaš, LLM, who has never studied journalism, today performs the most senior roles in electronic media. He is the operating director of the Dubrovnik TV, counsel to the Management Board of Radio Jug and is the chief consultant for the production group IneoMedia. He has worked as journalist and editor in the weekly Setemana, at Radio Jug, portal Dalmacija Plus and at Jadran television.
The public forum ‘Inside the World of Media’ is a student project, whose purpose is to present to the public, especially to young people, the work and functioning of the media by persons who have a rich career in the media. The goal is to highlight the importance of the critical thinking approach to the media content and to boost society’s media literacy. The invited guests will most surely contribute to this event by their interesting stories!
