Workshop “Global Classroom and the Development of Teachers’ Intercultural Competence” Held at the University of Dubrovnik

On 29 September 2025, the University of Dubrovnik hosted a workshop entitled “Global Classroom and the Development of Teachers’ Intercultural Competence”, led by Vice-Rector for Quality, Ethics and Strategic Development, Prof. Katija Vojvodić, PhD.

The workshop was focused on enhancing teaching practices in multicultural environments and strengthening teachers’ intercultural competences. At the core of the programme was a multidimensional framework for examining students and teachers in the global classroom, with special emphasis on cultural differences in communication,barriers in intercultural communication, components and profiles of cultural intelligence, models of intercultural competence, analysis of challenges in the global classroom.

Through discussion, exchange of experiences, and case studies, participants explored concrete pedagogical approaches applicable in everyday teaching practice.

In the context of the growing number of international students and study programmes offered in English, the workshop provided teachers with practical methods for effective teaching in diverse groups as well as support in developing intercultural competences, which are crucial for contemporary higher education.
