
The scientific article “The Potential of Aloe vera and Opuntia ficus-indica Extracts as Biobased Agents for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage Metals”, co-authored by Assoc. Prof. Lucia Emanuele, PhD, and Assist. Prof. Marta Kotlar, MFA, from the Department of Art and Restoration, together with Assoc. Prof. Marina Brailo Šćepanović, PhD, from the Department of Applied Ecology, University of Dubrovnik, in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Basilicata (Italy), has received special recognition – it was selected as Editor’s Choice in the prestigious Q2 journal Metabolites.
This recognition confirms the importance and quality of the research carried out through international cooperation, particularly through the long-term involvement of PhD candidate Cagdas Özdemir from the University of Basilicata. Özdemir has already spent two Erasmus internships at the University of Dubrovnik and has rejoined us again this academic year.
The article presents research on natural polysaccharides derived from Opuntia ficus-indica and Aloe vera as inhibitors of biological corrosion on copper and copper alloy samples, with the aim of preserving cultural heritage.
