Successful Implementation of the Blended Intensive Program “International Conservation Workshop Lopud 2025” through Collaboration of Three Universities

The Blended Intensive Program (BIP) titled International Conservation Workshop Lopud 2025 was implemented from 24 August to 15 October 2025, with the physical component taking place on the island of Lopud from 25 August to 8 September. The program was designed as an intensive combination of theoretical and practical learning aimed at fostering international cooperation in the field of cultural heritage conservation and restoration.

This exceptional art-science workshop brought together experts, professors, and students from the Institute of Conservation Sciences at the Technical University of Cologne, the La Cambre National School of Visual Arts in Brussels, and the Department of Art and Restoration at the University of Dubrovnik.

The workshop enabled the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices, as well as in situ learning through practical and theoretical engagement. Students had a unique opportunity to take part in conservation and restoration work on the choir stalls and altars of the Church of St. Mary of Špilice, making a lasting contribution to the preservation of the island’s cultural heritage.

The program was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Joško Bogdanović, Head of the Department of Art and Restoration, with the support of Sandra Memunić, Head of the Office for International Relations and Research Projects, and Nikolina Potrebica, Office Coordinator.

The workshop was held with the support and under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities, and the Society for the Preservation of the Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Island of Lopud.
