University of Dubrovnik participates in the first EUNICoast micro-credential dedicated to sustainable development of island territories

The EUNICoast European University Alliance, of which the University of Dubrovnik is a member, has officially launched its first micro-credential entitled Development, Sustainability and Environmental Policies in Island Territories, focusing on development, sustainability, and environmental policies in island contexts.

The programme is a 3 ECTS micro-credential, hosted by the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), and is intended for students and staff of EUNICoast partner institutions, as well as participants with relevant professional experience.

The micro-credential is based on the premise that island territories are among the regions most exposed to contemporary global challenges, including climate change, economic transitions, and the sustainable management of natural resources. The programme explores the intersections of sustainability, governance, and innovation in island settings.

The course brings together academics and experts from six EUNICoast partner universities:

  • University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) – Spain
  • Stralsund University of Applied Sciences (HOST) – Germany
  • West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin (ZUT) – Poland
  • University of the Azores (UAc) – Portugal
  • Åland University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) – Finland
  • University of the Faroe Islands (UFI) – Faroe Islands

Together, they offer an interdisciplinary educational experience that integrates political science, environmental studies, sociology, economics, and geography, with a strong focus on real-world sustainability challenges faced by island and coastal regions.

The programme is delivered in a blended format, combining online and in-person activities, and is taught in English, enabling participation from learners across all EUNICoast partner universities.

A preferential participation fee of €50 is available for students and staff of EUNICoast member universities. The micro-credential will take place from 26 February to 31 March 2026, with the application deadline set for 19 February 2026. Registration is currently open.

Micro-credentials are a key instrument of European University Alliances in developing flexible, international, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. This initiative represents an important milestone for the EUNICoast Alliance in strengthening its shared educational offer tailored to the specific needs of island and coastal communities.

Further information about the programme and the application process is available on the website of the University of the Balearic Islands.
