Annual meeting of project partners within the project ‘Preserving Pinna nobilis in the Adriatic Sea’

Scientists from the Department of Applied Ecology participated in the annual meeting of the project partners of the ‘Preserving the Pinna nobilis in the Adriatic Sea’ project, which was held on 1 March in Zadar. This project, implemented in the partnership of 23 partners, is coordinated by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, and co-funded by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, and it has entered into its third year of implementation. The activities are planned to continue until 2025.

The activities undertaken so far in the northern, middle and southern part of the Adriatic Sea were presented as well as ex-situ activities in Aquarium Pula. Spanish scientists from IMEDMAR-UCV presented their experience relating to Pinna nobilis. The participants exchanged their experiences and reflected on the previous and possible future challenges. The participation of scientific institutions, non-governmental sector, public institutions that manage the protected natural habitats and by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development contributed to the public visibility of this project. This is why the public also got involved in the activities of preserving the biggest Mediterranean bivalve mollusc which is under extinction threat.
