As part of the activities of the European University Alliance EUNICoast, and within the framework of the Dubrovnik Media Days and Policy Lab Day program at the University of Dubrovnik, a workshop titled “PromptED – Generative Artificial Intelligence and Responsible Application in Journalism” was held.
The workshop was led by Prof. Dr. Jasminko Novak, Annie Tang, and Nate Sowder from the European Institute for Participatory Media (EIPCM), in cooperation with Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, one of the partner universities within the EUNICoast Alliance. It focused on developing competences in the field of generative AI and promoting the ethical and responsible use of new technologies in journalism.
Through hands-on work with the innovative tool PromptED, developed within the European project AI-CODE, participants explored how AI can enhance journalistic practices while minimizing the risks of misinformation and strengthening professional accountability. Special attention was given to the needs of local and regional journalists, for whom such training opportunities are often less accessible.
This workshop serves as an excellent example of how the EUNICoast Alliance fosters the exchange of knowledge and experience among universities and strengthens cooperation among teachers, researchers, and students through joint projects and innovative educational initiatives.
EUNICoast unites 12 universities located along seven European seas, including institutions from Finland, Bulgaria, Slovenia, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Poland, Germany, and Croatia. Together, they bring together more than 127,000 students, 10,500 staff members, and operate through 111 faculties and departments.
The Alliance collaborates with more than 80 partners from education, industry, the public sector, and civil society, creating a wide network for interdisciplinary cooperation, research, and innovation.
The participation of the University of Dubrovnik in the EUNICoast Alliance opens new opportunities for the development of joint study programs, international mobility, and collaborative research projects. Through initiatives such as the PromptED workshop, EUNICoast reaffirms its mission to strengthen international cooperation among European universities, with a special focus on the innovative and responsible use of technology in education, science, and society.
The first Policy Lab Day was held on October 24, 2025, co-organized by the Faculty of Media and Public Relations, the Adriatic Observatory of Digital Media (ADMO), the Agency for Electronic Media, and the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO). The Laboratory for Digital and Media Policy was organized as a continuation of the international scientific conference Dubrovnik Media Days, which in its 17th edition focused on how generative artificial intelligence is transforming journalism, strategic communication, and education.
