The Faculty of Media and Communication of the University of Dubrovnik has officially become a member of the Global Media and Information Literacy Alliance (MIL Alliance) under the auspices of UNESCO.
This membership recognizes the Faculty as an active participant in the international community of experts, institutions, and organizations dedicated to advancing media and information literacy. By joining the MIL Alliance, the Faculty gains new opportunities for international cooperation, exchange of knowledge and experiences, and engagement in global initiatives aimed at strengthening critical thinking and the responsible use of media.
“In a time marked by complex and rapidly changing information environments, the MIL Alliance represents a key mechanism for building more informed, resilient, and inclusive communities. We are proud that the Faculty of Media and Communication has become part of this UNESCO initiative, and we look forward to actively contributing to its further development,” emphasized the Dean, Assist. Prof. Romana John, PhD.
This achievement is further strengthened by the Faculty’s flagship projects, ADMO and DU-Check, focused on media literacy and fact-checking. Through diverse activities such as training for young people and senior citizens, professional development of librarians, thematic panels, school workshops, as well as the creation of digital and printed publications, students and academic staff actively promote the importance of source verification, protection of society from disinformation, and make a significant contribution to the global efforts of fostering a media-aware culture and transparent communication.
This milestone represents yet another step towards positioning the University of Dubrovnik and the city of Dubrovnik on the global map of contemporary communities that, by integrating media and information literacy, create an enabling environment for dialogue, critical thinking, and sustainable development.
