A scientific article entitled “Low pH Does Not Impact Reproductive Success but Leads to Negative Carry-Over Effects Between Parents and Larvae in a Mediterranean Gastropod” has been published in the prestigious international journal Ecology and Evolution (Q1).
The authors of the paper are Dr. Sanja Grđan and Prof. Ana Bratoš Cetinić, PhD from the Department of Applied Ecology at the University of Dubrovnik, Luka Glamuzina, mag. ing. agr., and Prof. Sam Dupont, PhD from the University of Gothenburg.
The study provides new insights into the transgenerational effects of low pH conditions on the Mediterranean gastropod Hexaplex trunculus. The findings show that low pH does not directly affect the reproductive success of adult individuals, but it has negative carry-over effects on their offspring.
These results contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms shaping adaptation and resilience of marine organisms under changing environmental conditions.
