
The 17th Dubrovnik Media Days (DMD), an international scientific conference organized by the Faculty of Media and Public Relations of the University of Dubrovnik, in cooperation with the European University Institute (EUI), have been officially opened at the University of Dubrovnik.
This year’s conference, taking place from 22 to 23 October 2025, brings together leading scholars and experts in the fields of communication studies, mass media, journalism, public relations, and information and communication technologies. The theme of this year’s edition, “Generative Artificial Intelligence: Transforming Journalism, Strategic Communication and Education,” focuses on the current challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence introduces to the media and communication landscape.
The opening ceremony gathered numerous guests and participants. The audience was welcomed by Prof. Mato Brautović, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Public Relations and Student Standards at the University of Dubrovnik, Assist. Prof. Romana John, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Media and Public Relations, Žaklina Marević, Head of the Administrative Department for the County Prefect and the County Assembly of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, and Marko Potrebica, President of the Dubrovnik City Council.
The conference is designed as a two-day international scientific event, followed by a one-day Policy Lab aimed at fostering exchange between academia, professionals, regulators, and policymakers. It brings together both young and established researchers from various disciplines, including information integrity, democracy, media and journalism, market competition and antitrust law, copyright, education, and regulation. The program features keynote lectures by world-renowned experts, including Murielle Poppa-Fabre from the AI & Society Institute (ENS-PSL, Paris), Silvio Waisbord from George Washington University (USA), and Nicolas Petit from the European University Institute (Florence).
Accepted papers and extended abstracts will be considered for publication in a special issue of the academic journal Media Studies, further confirming the scientific significance and recognition of Dubrovnik Media Days. The conference is supported by numerous domestic and international institutions and each year brings together distinguished experts and university professors from prestigious universities and institutes across Europe and beyond.
Once again, Dubrovnik Media Days reaffirm the University of Dubrovnik’s role as an important hub for discussion on contemporary communication trends and the responsible application of artificial intelligence in media, strategic communication, and education.
