Within the programme of celebrating the 750th anniversary of the Statute of Dubrovnik, the teachers and students of the undergraduate study programme of History of the Adriatic and the Mediterranean participated in the workshop ‘The Statute and everyday life’, which was held in the Reading Room of the Dubrovnik State Archive.
The workshop was held by Assistant Professors Jasenka Maslek and Irena Ipšić with the help of their students. The topics covered were the topics from the IV and VI book of the Statute: On Dowry, On Murders, On Poisoners. The graduates from Dubrovnik’s secondary schools and students of the undergraduate study programme of History of the Adriatic and the Mediterranean had the opportunity to learn on the examples from the history of Dubrovnik what was the procedure against a person who committed suicide, what was included in dowry, how was a husband to proceed with his wife’s dowry and on the procurement and preparation of ‘those things’. Senior archivist of the Dubrovnik State Archive Zoran Perović talked about the Statute and its restoration.
Pupils participated by asking questions and giving their comments and they had the opportunity to see one of the preserved transcripts of the Statute that is archived in the Dubrovnik State Archive. This workshop was the first of the two workshops planned to be held in this year of celebration.
We would like to remind you that the Year of the Statute of Dubrovnik is being marked with a series of different programmes through the entire year.
