Workshops “Ethical Compass: Workshop on Plagiarism and Academic Integrity” Held at the University of Dubrovnik

As part of the University of Dubrovnik’s ongoing efforts to strengthen academic excellence and promote ethics in scholarly and professional work, a series of workshops titled “Ethical Compass: Workshop on Plagiarism and Academic Integrity” was held throughout December.

The workshops aim to raise awareness of the importance of academic integrity and to prevent dishonest practices in education and research. The programme defines various forms of academic misconduct, including cheating and plagiarism, and examines the reasons why students may resort to such actions. Special attention is given to the challenges posed by online learning and the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), with a focus on distinguishing between ethical and unethical uses of AI tools in student assignments. The workshop also offers strategies for preventing academic misconduct and outlines the consequences of violating ethical standards.

The workshops were led by Assistant Professor Ana Car, PhD, and Assistant Professor Barbara Gangai Zovko, PhD, from the Institute for Marine and Coastal Research. Through interactive lectures, discussions and practical examples, they provided students with clear insights into key aspects of academic ethics.

The training sessions were held on four dates across different University locations:

  • Monday, 1 December 2025 – Faculty of Economics
  • Thursday, 4 December 2025 – University building, Ćira Carića Street
  • Tuesday, 9 December 2025 – University of Dubrovnik Campus
  • Thursday, 11 December 2025 – University Campus (workshop held in English for international students)

This series of workshops represents an important contribution to the University of Dubrovnik’s continuous commitment to fostering and upholding high academic and ethical standards among its students and staff.
