Visits to schools within Blue-connect project

Within the Blue-connect project, colleagues from the Department of Arts and Restoration visited the Marin Držić Elementary School, while the colleagues from the Laboratory for Intelligent Autonomous Systems LARIAT visited the Montovjerna Elementary School.

Assistant Professor (doc. sr. art) Iris Lobaš Kukavičić and Assistant Professor Margarita Bego, PhD from the Department of Arts and Restoration held a workshop to the pupils from the Marin Držić Elementary School. During this workshop, pupils had the chance to learn how to make souvenirs from the shells of mussels and oysters and to learn about the procedure of shell waste recycling. The teachers presented the procedure of preparing the material for souvenir-making as well as cleaning, washing, cooking, baking, grinding and sifting. The souvenirs obtained through this procedure where then coloured and, after drying, attached to magnets.

Vicko Prkačin, MA in Electrical Engineering (mag. ing. el.) and Antun Đuraš, MA in Engineering (mag. ing.) from the Laboratory for Autonomous Systems LARIAT familiarised the pupils from the Montovjerna Elementary School with the principle of work and basic components of robotic systems and informed them about the skills and knowledge needed to develop robots. On the example of an autonomous submarine and submarine environment, they presented some of challenges facing the robots, the necessary sensors and algorithms that enable their navigation and tasks.
