The University of Dubrovnik today hosted the Orientation Day for international students who will be studying in Dubrovnik during the winter semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The program, organized in cooperation with the University and ESN Dubrovnik, began at the University Campus amphitheatre, where students were welcomed by Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Public Relations and Student Standard, Prof. Mato Brautović, PhD.
At the very beginning, students were addressed by Nikolina Potrebica, Head of the Office for International Students, followed by Jelena Bupić, psychologist at the newly established Office for Inclusivity and Psychological Support, who emphasized that students can always reach out to her and also gave a short presentation, and Anamarija Lučić, Senior Associate at the Office for International Relations and Mobility, who delivered an engaging presentation with practical advice on how to settle in and “survive” in Dubrovnik. Students were also addressed by Assoc. Prof. Saša Selmanović, PhD, President of the University Sports Association, who introduced the available sports activities and opportunities to get involved in various sports and competitions. Afterwards, the students visited UNIDU Radio and UNIDU Television.
In addition to academic and student life, international students were also introduced to the international projects in which the University actively participates. Particular emphasis was given to the EUNICoast – European University of Islands, Ports and Coastal Territories, an alliance of 13 European universities focusing on islands, ports and coastal regions. Through EUNICoast, UNIDU contributes to strengthening international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the connection of island and coastal communities through innovation, open science and digital learning. Students were also informed about numerous other projects conducted by the University within the Horizon, Interreg, Erasmus+ and other European programmes, which enhance UNIDU’s research excellence, promote student and staff mobility, and contribute to the sustainable development of both the local and wider community.
During this winter semester, Dubrovnik is hosting 70 exchange students, 11 of whom will be staying for the entire academic year. Most of them are participating through the Erasmus+ programme, coming mainly from Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia, along with students from ten other European countries. This year also marks a significant increase in students from non-EU countries, with nine participants arriving from Costa Rica, Argentina, Ecuador and Montenegro. In addition, the American API programme brings 14 students, including one who will remain for the full year.
This year, alongside Erasmus+ exchange students, the University of Dubrovnik has also welcomed the first generation of full-time students enrolled in study programmes in English, representing an important step in the University’s internationalization. These include students at the undergraduate programme in Business Economics, graduate programmes in Conservation and Restoration, Media, and Business Economics with a specialization in Tourism.
The entire academic community of the University of Dubrovnik extends a warm welcome to all students and wishes them a successful academic year!
