The University of Dubrovnik hosted the EUNICoast General Assembly, held from 8 to 12 March 2026 in Dubrovnik, bringing together representatives of governing bodies, the academic community, and students from partner universities across Europe.
This was the first major gathering of alliance members since its establishment, marking an important milestone for the further development of joint activities, strategic alignment, and the strengthening of cooperation among partner institutions.
Throughout the multi-day programme, a series of meetings of key alliance bodies took place, including the Board of Rectors, Vice-Rectors for Education and Research, the Steering Committee, and the Student Council. Discussions focused on the strategic development of the alliance, joint study programmes, research priorities, and the next steps in implementing planned activities.
The programme also included a range of thematic sessions and workshops, highlighting discussions on the common research agenda, the development of a virtual campus, the application of artificial intelligence in education, and strengthening the visibility of the alliance through student and communication initiatives.
Special emphasis was placed on connecting science and practice through activities such as a visit to the Laboratory for Mariculture in Bistrina, as well as workshops focused on innovative approaches, including transforming marine litter into sustainable solutions.
In addition to the official programme, participants took part in informal activities and field visits, including a trip to the Pelješac Peninsula and an introduction to the local shellfish farming tradition, further fostering networking and the exchange of experiences among partners.
The General Assembly resulted in concrete steps for the further development of the alliance, including discussions on the legal framework of EUNICoast, defining future priorities, and strengthening institutional cooperation among member institutions.
As an active partner and co-leader of activities in the field of research and innovation, the University of Dubrovnik once again confirmed its important role in the development of European university alliances and its contribution to strengthening international academic cooperation.
By hosting this event, Dubrovnik has once again been affirmed as a relevant meeting point for the European academic community, while the University of Dubrovnik has further established itself as a reliable and recognised partner in international projects.
